- Therapeutic Philosophy
I use cognitive-behavioral based therapy, which is helping one understand how their thoughts and feelings are connected to their actions. Reasons for seeking therapy are different for everyone; providing a caring, supportive, and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential no matter the circumstance. I also use art therapy with many clients. Art therapy uses art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem and helps clients discover themselves, their circumstances, and the relationship between these things.
- experience
I have experience providing therapy services to children and their families in community mental health setting, and, most recently, I was a residential owner and therapist at ASA HOUSE. Then went to Eunoia, however, they closed. So I now have my own therapy practice in my home. I have worked with older children, adolescents, and adults primarily who struggle with mental illness, developmental disorders, chemical dependency, behavioral problems, trauma, self-harm, fetal alcohol, and attachment issues.
- About Me
I have lived in various areas of Minnesota throughout my life, and currently reside in Gaylord, MN, with my husband and three children. I enjoy traveling and all the experiences that go along with it. I have had the pleasure of providing mental health and other related services to individuals and families in various settings for the past 12 years, and find my truest passion lies in providing direct counseling services to those in need.
- Education
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Luther College, Decorah, IA. I taught for about 10 years, and then chose a different career path and I completed my graduate studies at Capella University, Minneapolis, MN, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Counseling.
